Permits

Who issues HVAC permits in Baker County

Baker County’s Community Development Department handles building, planning, zoning and code enforcement for the county, and its fee schedule includes residential and commercial HVAC permits.

The county’s page doesn’t spell out whether it also permits work inside Macclenny or Glen St. Mary. For an address in either town, confirm the issuing office before a replacement is scheduled.

Under the Florida Building Code, replacing a part inside a single piece of equipment, such as a capacitor, generally doesn’t need a permit. Replacing the system does.

What homes need

What Baker County homes need

Out in the country, a breakdown is more of a hassle, so the cheap insurance is catching weak parts early. A capacitor that tests below its rating or a contactor with pitted points can be replaced during a maintenance visit instead of failing on the hottest afternoon of the year.

Heating matters too. North Florida winter nights can dip below freezing, and a heat pump that is low on refrigerant or stuck in a bad defrost cycle leans on its backup heat strips. That usually shows up as a high power bill before it shows up as a cold house.

See heat pump repair and heating service.

Heat pumps aren’t the only option. We also repair and install gas furnaces and heat strips, and larger jobs can be paid over time through financing.

Rental owners can use us for turnovers and inspection forms, and buyers can book an HVAC inspection before closing.

Every diagnosis is built on readings you can see:

  • Refrigerant pressures
  • Superheat and subcooling, to judge the charge
  • Amp draw on the compressor and motors
  • Static pressure, to judge airflow through the ducts

The residential diagnostic fee is $129, waived if you go ahead with a recommended repair over $250. You get a written quote before any work starts.

Straight answers

Common questions

Do you travel to Baker County?

Yes. Baker County, including Macclenny, Glen St. Mary and Sanderson, is part of our eight-county service area.

Who issues HVAC permits in Baker County?

Baker County’s Community Development Department lists HVAC permits on its fee schedule. For homes inside Macclenny or Glen St. Mary, confirm the issuing office before a replacement.

Should my heat pump be checked before winter?

It is a good idea. Checking refrigerant charge, defrost operation and the backup heat strips before cold weather catches problems that otherwise show up as a high power bill or no heat.

Can I pay over time?

Yes. Financing is available through Synchrony, GreenSky or Wisetack, or through your own credit union’s home-improvement loan.
