Hastings · St. Johns County
Hastings began as a vegetable farm for Henry Flagler’s hotels and is still known as the Potato Capital of Florida. Langston’s works on home heating and cooling here, along with the coolers and freezers that farm and food businesses depend on.
Local snapshot
Farm town roots
Thomas Horace Hastings, a cousin of Flagler, started a farm here to grow vegetables for the St. Augustine hotels, and the town took his name in 1890. Potatoes became the main crop alongside cabbage, onions and ornamental plants, and by 1910 Hastings was a busy stop on the Florida East Coast Railway. Farming still shapes the landscape around town.
Voters dissolved the town government in 2017, and St. Johns County has governed the area directly since March 2018. For an equipment change-out, that means county rules and county permitting apply.
Open fields are hard on outdoor units in their own way. Dust, pollen and crop debris build up on condenser coils and cut airflow, and a coil that looks fine from a distance can be packed underneath; a proper cleaning restores capacity and eases the load on the compressor.
Commercial refrigeration
Langston’s also services commercial refrigeration: walk-in coolers and freezers, reach-ins, prep tables and ice machines. For a farm stand, packing shed or small restaurant, a cooler that will not hold temperature is a product problem, not just a comfort one.
The commercial diagnostic is $149, waived on repairs over $300, and you see the quote in writing before work begins. Walk-in freezers, prep tables and reach-ins get the same measured diagnosis as a home system, with pressures and temperatures shown to you.
Scheduling
Hastings sits in the rural southwest part of St. Johns County, so booking online through Housecall Pro is the easiest way to pick a time that works. If you would rather talk it through first, the callback form or a call to (904) 467-1100 Monday through Saturday, 8 AM to 8 PM, works too.
Residential visits start with the $129 diagnostic, which is waived when you approve a recommended repair over $250. Business equipment such as a walk-in falls under the commercial rate described above.
Either way, Mr Gary shows you the readings behind the diagnosis and puts the price in writing before any parts are ordered or work begins.

Check it at least each spring and again after harvest-season dust. If the fins look matted or gray, it is time for a cleaning.
Hastings has been unincorporated since 2018, so St. Johns County governs the area and county permitting applies to an equipment replacement.
