Putnam County seat · St. Johns River
Palatka’s historic districts include houses from the late 1800s, and older homes need careful airflow work, not just bigger equipment. We schedule visits here and do the diagnosis ourselves.
Quick facts
Local conditions
Palatka sits where the St. Johns River narrows, and it was incorporated in 1853 as a steamboat and winter-resort town. After a fire in 1884 burned much of downtown, the business district was rebuilt in brick.
The North and South Historic Districts are on the National Register, and a 2023 city survey recorded close to 400 historic resources built through 1973. Styles run from Folk Victorian and Craftsman bungalows to postwar ranch houses, and many of them went up before central air was common.
Retrofit systems tend to share the same weak spots: returns too small for the blower, ducts threaded through crawlspaces and attics wherever they would fit, and supply registers in odd places. Before anyone recommends more tonnage, we measure static pressure and temperature split, because a larger unit on a choked duct system mostly makes more noise.
How we approach older homes
On an older Palatka home, the visit covers:
Sometimes the right fix is not in the main system at all. A ductless mini-split can handle an upstairs room or sunporch the ducts never reached, and a second return in a hallway can quiet a system that has been starved for air for years. Either is usually a smaller project than replacing the main system.
If you are buying an older Palatka home, an HVAC inspection before closing tells you the system’s age, its condition and what the ductwork can realistically carry. Sellers can use the same report to answer questions before a buyer’s inspector raises them.
Palatka is a longer drive south from our Westside shop, so visits are planned on the calendar. You get the readings, an explanation and a written quote before any work starts, and financing is available on larger projects.

Yes, throughout the city and the rest of Putnam County. Because it is a drive south from the Westside, we agree on a day with you instead of promising an arrival time.
Usually not. Hot rooms in older homes are more often a duct or return problem, which we confirm with static pressure readings before recommending equipment.
Yes. An inspection before closing documents the system’s age, refrigerant readings and duct condition, and you get it in writing.
Yes. Synchrony, GreenSky and Wisetack all offer plans, and a home-improvement loan from your own credit union works too.
