Permits

Who issues HVAC permits in Putnam County

The Putnam County Building Department, part of Development Services, handles permitting, inspections and licensing outside the cities. East Palatka is a census-designated community east of the Palatka city limits, not a city of its own.

The county states that its five cities, Palatka, Crescent City, Interlachen, Pomona Park and Welaka, have no inter-local agreements with it for these services, and it sends building questions inside city limits to the city offices. If your home is inside one of those cities, start with city hall.

Under the Florida Building Code, replacing a part inside a single piece of equipment, such as a capacitor, generally doesn’t need a permit. Replacing the system does.

What homes need

What Putnam County homes need

Every air conditioner makes water, and in a damp climate it makes a lot. A blocked condensate drain can shut the system off or overflow into a ceiling, so flushing the line and testing the float switch belong in every maintenance visit.

For additions, workshops or rooms the central system doesn’t reach, a ductless mini-split is often simpler than extending ductwork.

Restaurants and stores can call us for commercial HVAC and commercial refrigeration, including walk-in coolers, reach-ins and ice machines.

Heat pumps here work in both seasons. When one runs constantly, ices up or heats poorly, the cause is often a refrigerant leak, a weak capacitor or a defrost problem, and the readings tell them apart.

Before any quote, you see the readings:

  • Refrigerant pressures
  • Superheat and subcooling, to judge the charge
  • Amp draw on the compressor and motors
  • Static pressure, to judge airflow through the ducts

The residential diagnostic fee is $129, waived if you go ahead with a recommended repair over $250. You get a written quote before any work starts. Book an AC maintenance visit to get ahead of problems.

Straight answers

Common questions

Who issues HVAC permits in Palatka?

Putnam County says its five cities, including Palatka, have no inter-local agreements with it for building services, so homes inside Palatka city limits start with the city. Areas outside the cities go through the county Building Department.

Do you serve Interlachen and Crescent City?

Yes. Palatka, East Palatka, Interlachen, Crescent City and the rest of Putnam County are part of our service area.

Why does my AC drain line keep clogging?

Warm, wet condensate lines grow algae and sludge that block the drain. Flushing the line during maintenance and making sure the float switch works keeps a clog from shutting the system down or leaking.

Do you service walk-in coolers?

Yes. We repair and maintain walk-in coolers and freezers, reach-ins, prep tables and ice machines. Commercial diagnostics are $149, waived on repairs over $300.
